New Inspiration

I've not bought anything from New Look 'Inspire'. There. I've said it!

I have now rectified this when I was in York yesterday with my Mam, as we wondered around the half open store (sewage leak) - which effected, you guessed it, the Inspire area! We had a game of look out, while I snuck into the taped off area to snatch at clothes. Oh yes, it was a hoot!

I actually tried clothes on in the store, and do regret not taking my camera in with me, but hey ho!

This dress I found too big in the 22, (especially in the waist area - it really needed the belt) and the 20 far too small. The material was a nice heavy fabric, which would have been lovely if it wasn't Spring! But the colour was vibrant, the length perfect, and the belt fitted on the tightest hook (so for those the have issues with the belts with clothes being too small, I'm guessing this wouldn't be a problem here).

After the disappointment, I wasn't holding out much hope for this:

I love this dress! I love that it pulls in my waist, I love the pattern, I love the length (I tried it on in New Look with leggings and flats... Big win!

I also like that I can wear it as a winter top as well, either with a cardigan, or with my cape from Simply Be.

When I was walking to pay for this dress, I noticed this one:

And I thought, well, the African print was such a success, this must be as well. And it fits. But that isn't the issue I have with it:

I honestly have no words: the dress is designed to generate curves I think, rather than highlight them. The way the material falls adds to the top and lower half rather than just highlighting the waist.

The pattern is lovely, and the detail of the sleeves and length is perfect. Shame it's going back next weekend though.

Much love my lovelies,

  1. So you haven't shopped from NL, well, I have a confession.. I don't own anything from Simply Be (except two pairs of shoes)!! ;)

The Africa print looks great on you!! I'm glad you stepped in to NL :). Shame about the zigzag one though :/. Oh, and thanka for reviewing the green one, I have been eyeing that, so extra info is always good!

    1. I love the African print! And it if wasn't 'Business Dress for Visitors' today, I would so be wearing it!!

I do think the zig zag dress will work for most people, just not for my shape.

Isn't is off that with so few +fashion retailers, there are still some we just don't think of when shopping!!

    2. I know! I forget SO MANY. I basically go for Primark/Dorothy Perkins/New Look/Evans(mostly only shoes tho)/Forever21 and that's it. I just made my first order with OSP, so I'm trying to learn.. lol.. at least when it's final clearance time ;). I would definitely order more from SP, but the prices scare me.. even NL prices scare me most of the time. Primark has spoiled me with their stupidly cheap stuff (that I really can't even fit into).

Oops, I think I have spammed your comments enough now, this one is a novel ;D.

    3. I don't fit in Primark clothes, or DP really. ASDA / Sainsburys / Tesco, yes. Highstreet, no.

So SB, Evans, ASOS have been my staple over the past 2 months or so - but New Look may be my highstreet saviour!!

    4. I fit in Primark 20 better than ASDA 20 myself. Oh, and I did forget ASOS from my list ;).

NL is lovely though, except the store nearest to me. They have a shitty selection.. but there's always online ;)

    5. My local local store doesn't have any in, but the one in Newcastle has a good selection I think.

And for the first time in forever, I enjoyed the trying on experience!!

  3. Love the african dress on you....so lovely!

The second dress is the exact sort I tend to favour, for the very reason you mentioned....it creates the illusion of curves as I'm not blessed in the upstairs department!!

    1. I can see why! It was very effective on me, but like I said, I just didn't 'feel' it as a flattering dress. I know that a lot of people say Fuck Flattering, but I still like most of my clothes to be either a flattering cut or fabric.

I'd recommend this dress for you then Sara: the material is light and the dress is lined - so perfect fot the Summer.

  4. Loving the African print dress it looks great on you, I bought 1 very similar from Tesco of all places!

I tend not to buy much from the Inspire range in New Look whenever I have looked at their range before it tends to be all black, and I don't think they merchanidise their stock well either. My local branch of New Look took Inspire out of the shop completely, which is daft as the only other plus size shop in Evans, and even that has been reduced in size! And shops wonder why people buy online!?
